Flu Solutions: Ofstead’s Evidence-Based Materials

Ofstead knows that influenza has a significant negative impact on the health and productivity of our nation’s workforce, and that it is damaging to the U.S. economy. In one season alone, influenza accounted for $10.4 billion in direct medical costs, 44 million days of lost productivity, and a total economic burden of $87 billion – equivalent to 0.79% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product. That’s an enormous expense for a vaccine-preventable illness.

In response, Ofstead has conducted studies to find out how to support decision-making by employers, employees, and families. As a part of this research, we designed a series of evidence-based materials that addressed concerns, dispelled myths, and promoted the benefits of annual influenza vaccination. During the 2009-2010 H1N1 influenza pandemic, we developed policies and procedures for employers who needed to respond to OSHA requirements that they implement programs to safeguard their workforces. Since then, we have expanded our programs to include a variety of engaging posters, flyers, and videos that capture workers’ attention and address the importance of receiving an influenza vaccination annually.

These educational materials can be easily deployed via email, your company intranet, and in unconventional areas (e.g., bathroom stalls and refrigerator doors). Below are a few examples of this expansive set of materials. For more information about availability and pricing, please contact us today.
